Luminous watch face question - just wondering - WATCH TALK FORUMS - Hot Watches

While my Submariner is in for service, I’m stuck wearing an old Casio divers watch I purchased 24 years ago. After adding a new battery it still works great. It too, by the way, has been a great watch. Purchased right after high school graduation, worn thru 4 years in the military and beyond.

Anyway…I notice that even after 24 years the face glows significantly brighter than my Submariner does. After about 12 years +/- the Sub started loosing some of it’s brightness. Normal from what I’ve read.

My questions is why does a cheap-o $30 Casio still glow so bright after 24 years and the Rolex started to peter out after about half that time?

Would the fact that the Casio was in a dark jewlery box for most of the last 17 years be the reason? Is it time or "mileage" (the actual amount of time the luminescent material is actually glowing that effects this??

Just curious…

I understand different watch makers use different substances for this purpose, but how could Casio afford to use a superior material to Rolex in a $30 watch??

It is VERY handy……
1) it shows what camera people use (Marcus also used Leica on the picture showing 3035 in acrylic blog)
2) but more importantly for me…it shows the important settings (shutter speed, f-stop, ISO etc)
and if the picture is nice, it helps me learn and improve my photography..

When you right-click on the picture it show something like this:

but it only works as long as somebody wants you to see his EXIF files .
I don´t mind posting EXIFs and the advantage for me is the copyright in the pics!
So nobody can say, he didn´t know!

I have no idea what’s coming. Not even an inkling. I will bet though that the only change to the SS/Plat YM is a new clasp and that’s it.

I can’t wait to see how far off the deep end Rolex goes this year. They pulled out all the stops last year with total revamping of watches that were the same for SO many years. It’ll be cool to see the new ads, the new website, the watches, the pics, the travelogues, etc.

If my friends knew what I post about on WTF they’d think I was a nut!
